Pamela

Dancers Emily Johnson, Jessica Cressey, and Hannah Kramer are fascinating to watch, no matter what they're doing. A press release for "Pamela," a choreographic collaboration between the three, describes the collective Pamela as "assiduous and foolish and affectedly elegant." A recent rehearsal affirmed all that and more. Dressed in chicly retro black and white, doing enigmatic things like dancing to cell phone music, draping themselves dramatically over paint cans, and literally beating their backs against the wall, the three evoke a cross between the macabre and witty Edward Gorey animations that open PBS's Mystery series and the highly-stylized angst of 1960's movies like the inscrutable Last Year at Marienbad. In addition to the surreal, concrete indulgences like wine, ham, and cigarettes will be available.
