Craig Ferguson

A lot of people were surprised when the hosting duties of CBS's Late, Late, Show were handed to Craig Ferguson. At the time, he was most widely known as the boss on the Drew Carey Show. Ferguson edged out MTV's Damien Fahey, former Ed co-star Michael Ian Black, and comedian D.L. Hughley for the spot. The choice of Ferguson raised eyebrows. Though he was recognized as an actor in the U.S., the Glasgow native had started as a standup comedian in Britain. Prior to that, he was the drummer in a punk-rock outfit called Bastards from Hell. Before heading to America, he hosted a program on Scottish TV about archaeology. Nominated for an Emmy in 2006 for his Late, Late, Show duties, Ferguson often returns to his roots and performs standup, allowing American audiences to sample a bigger dose of his humor.
