This double dose of San Francisco neo-psychedelia features Tea Leaf Green, who have risen to the top of the jam band heap with their ability to combine first-rate songwriting with inspired noodling, and Moonalice, a relatively new band sporting some well-known vets. The flowing, expansive TLG vibe, complete with Robert Hunteresque lyrics, is in abundant evidence on the 2006 DVD (and accompanying CD) filmed by Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann's son, Justin. The most notable bit of current TLG news is that bass player Ben Chambers, tired of the road, left the band last fall and has been replaced by Reed Mathis. Moonalice, whose debut album is being produced by T-Bone Burnett and is due later this year, likely covers similar terrain. The touring sextet includes guitarist G.E. Smith, former leader of the Saturday Night Live band, and ex-Jefferson Starship keyboardist-bassist Pete Sears. The band's website also lists longtime Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady as a seventh member, although he doesn't appear to be on tour. Nonetheless, plenty of nutrition for your head. 18+.
