When Jeff Foxworthy started the Blue Collar Comedy Tour a few years back, he made stars of comedians targeting the wannabe-hick market of regular guys laughing at regular-guy stuff, Larry the Cable Guy being the loudest, most obvious beneficiary. Countless tours and DVDs later, they've provided the model for the Bad Apples Comedy Tour. The players, Jeff Cesario and Minnesota's own Dave Mordal and Scott Hansen, don't have red necks, but they are successfully tapping into the "three regular guys telling jokes for other regular guys" format that worked so well for Blue Collar. You might not know any of the comedians' names, but chances are you know their work. Cesario wrote and produced Dennis Miller Live and won an Emmy for his efforts. Mordal jumped to national fame by almost winning NBC's unscripted hit Last Comic Standing twice, and Hansen has won the Minnesota Comedian of the Year Award a staggering five times. All three are forced to delay their writing projects while Hollywood writers continue to strike. But Hollywood's loss is our gain, as the Bad Apples guys have plenty of time to tour and unload all their unused A material.
