Rock Burlesque Christmas Benefit for Kids with Fucked-Up Parents

It's the season of giving, and this year burlesque and cabaret ensemble Le Cirque Rouge are adding a couple of more Xs to X-Mas by performing at First Avenue. It will be Le Cirque Rouge's fourth holiday show at the venue, and founder and performer Amy Buchanan says this year she thought her team of saucy dancers could help people spending the holidays in less-than-ideal situations. While the dancers will stuff Christmas stockings with kicking legs, local music acts will also help the cause. Set to perform are hard-rocking band Gay Witch Abortion; guitar and drum duo Kid Dakota, fresh off recording A Winner's Shadow, the follow-up album to their critically adored 2004 disc The West Is the Future; A Whisper in the Noise, who will be leaving for a European tour this spring, and experimental/rap collective Kill the Vultures, whom Fader has described as worthwhile "difficult listening." Proceeds from the event will go to the Tubman Family Alliance, a charity with the goal of ending family violence between the fucked-up parents, and the homeless shelter People Serving People, which feeds more than 250 individuals in crisis each night.
Wed., Dec. 12, 8 p.m., 2007
