Katha Dance Theatre: Katha, the Story

More About

Rita Mustaphi, the founder of Katha Dance Theatre, is a dance ambassador extraordinaire. Last September she presented Dots and Feathers, a collaboration with Native American Larry Yazzie's Native Pride Dancers. Now she is launching a special family holiday show that features myths and legends of India told through three ancient and venerable Indian dance forms: Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Kuchipudi. Say all three words in one quick breath and you have some idea of the rhythmic bliss—not to mention the richly detailed costumes and sets—that characterizes this lively dance form. To get you in the mood, there's a family holiday party an hour before the performance featuring ethnic food, holiday gifts, and live music.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Nov. 29. Continues through Dec. 2, 2007
