Jane Martin's play debuted at the Humana Festival in 2000 (Martin is widely believed to be a pseudonym for Jon Jory, former director of Actors Theatre of Louisville) and was received as a nicely crafted comedy about the inside eccentric dynamics of contemporary theater (What? There's something odd about the theater world?). It's an all-female show that depicts a company in Texas trying to stage a production of Chekhov's Three Sisters; Martin loosely spoofs Chekhov's characters, here in the form of a jaded veteran actress, a soap star looking for credibility, and a wide-eyed newcomer. Former Minnesota Fringe executive director Leah Cooper directs this Starting Gate production, and in no way will she be drawing upon her experience with nutty theater folk from her old job.
