Voice to Vision

The concept behind "From Voice to Vision" is to use Holocaust and genocide survivors' stories as the inspiration for art. The results are dramatic pieces shown juxtaposed with a photomontage of the survivors, which depict the stories in ways that transcend words. The dripping and splattered paint on the canvas combined with only selective use of words, such as "they love to die" or simply "help," create striking visual images that command the viewer to piece together the story, thus becoming a part of the narrative herself. The subjects are primarily survivors of the Holocaust, with a few from Tibet and Rwanda, reminding viewers that genocide continues today. In addition to the opening reception, V2V3, a documentary film about genocide in Romania and Rwanda, will be shown on December 9 at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a panel discussion with the artists and survivors. Public reception 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11.
Nov. 8-Dec. 21, 2007
