High art meets low-down trash in this musical, which grabbed an armload of major awards and critical praise in Britain. Minneapolis Musical Theatre is only the third company to be granted permission to stage it while its creators hone it for Broadway. In the first act, the titular sleazemeister is in his natural habitat of unlikely infidelities and disgraceful secrets. In the second, Jerry goes to hell and tries to reconcile Jesus and Satan (with operatic accompaniment). One presumes there will be some sort of chair-flinging along the way, with America's beloved host pretending to be appalled while smiling behind his hand. Come on, you know you can't help but look.
Thursdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 28, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 5. Continues through Oct. 27, 2007
