MN Fall Fashion Weekend

Can Minnesota really be a stylin' state? Some might argue that this is an impossibility—how can a frozen land that dons knit hats with earflaps and ski masks without irony be fashionable? Thanks to this fall fashion weekend, the answer to the first question is a resounding "yes!" Skeptics who raise an eyebrow at the three or more GAP stores in the Mall of America need only look at locales such as Cliché or Local Motion to see that local designers are creating some truly wearable works of art. Events kick off on Wednesday when Electicoiffeur, the stylist collective behind gigs such as Voltage: Fashion Amplified, will be guest DJs at Club Jäger's Transmission. Events continue through Sunday, featuring happy hours, trunk shows, open studios, and workshops throughout the Twin Cities. Highlights include a tour at the Minnesota History Center on Minnesota dressmakers of the late 19th century, an "art as fashion, fashion as art" show hosted by mplsart.com on Friday, a free House of Henry champagne and truffles brunch on Saturday, and a fashion illustration workshop at the Textile Center of Minnesota. Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Sept. 23, 2007
