Sounds of Blackness (CD-Release)

This free early show at Sabathani combines fun and optimism the way only Grammy-winning gospel and secular vocal powerhouses Sounds of Blackness can. Led by Gary Hines since 1971—before some of its current members were born—the local ensemble has long pursued the seemingly impossible task of living up to its name as a matter of both social pleasure and aid. On their latest CD, Kings & Queens: Message Music from the Movement (a Best Buy exclusive), Sounds tackle the subject of self-respect and domestic violence, and do that one better by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Martin Luther King Memorial Fund.
Tue., Sept. 4, 6:30 p.m.
