Paradise Hotel

The New York Times called Richard Foreman the "reigning philosopher vaudevillian of the New York avant-garde for three decades now," and there are many worse things that can be said about someone. New local company ThE BRiNK (run that one through your spell checker) takes on Foreman's abstract free-form meditation on lust, love, and art (the brain is the most erotic organ, and all of that). The plot, such as it is, revolves around five characters in search of the titular hotel—a stand-in for carnal bliss and all that it promises. Foreman's usual stomping ground as a playwright-director is NYC's Ontological-Hysteric Theater, and there's no way to know how his work is going to be translated here. It is, though, definitely tempting to find out.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Aug. 24. Continues through Sept. 2
