Ten-Dollar and Five-Dollar Wine Nights

TEN-DOLLAR WINE NIGHTS: Gentlemen, the stakes have been lowered! Forget half-price wine nights. Those are so 2004. Ten-dollar wine nights are the new thing, and you can find them at Solera on Mondays and at Broders' Southside Pasta Bar on Tuesdays. How's that? Well, at Broders', the offer is good through the end of April and involves either of two bottles of Italian wine (one white, another red) selected from their usual, excellent list. Listen up, Lake Harriet: Tuesday is officially renamed booze day! Get your groove day! Wooo day! Whatever. You get the idea.

Meanwhile in Spain, I mean at Solera, the gigantic tapas bar downtown, Monday is just another manic fun day. Your walk-don't-run-day! Your forget about Ted Bundy! Whatever. On Mondays, the restaurant has a whole list of 10 wines all priced at $9.50: Cristalino sparkling Cava, whites like the spelling bee winner's ace in the hole, Xarmant Arabako Txakolina, a couple of good red Riojas, the works. This wine deal is good throughout the bar and dining room. So how is it that the dollar is plunging against the euro, yet European wines are cheaper than ever--at least in the first half of the week? Beats me. I guess ours is not to reason why, ours is just to drink and buy, at really awesome low prices. FIVE-DOLLAR WINE NIGHTS: Forget $10-wine nights! Those are so last paragraph. At 3 Muses, through the end of April, they are celebrating the arrival of their newest chef, young Emily Streeter, with $5 bottles of wine each and every night of the week. All you have to do to get one is order two entrées from the new menu. (This new menu is classic French--think roasted monkfish in a remoulade sauce, or pan-roasted beef tenderloin with a potato-chive gratin and haricots verts.) I last had chef Streeter's cooking when she was steering Bakery on Grand through its High French period, and can't wait to see what she can do in the always-experimental world of 3 Muses. Where Friday is your bargain-buy day! And Wednesday is your time-with-friends day! And Tuesday is your magic booze day! Oh wait, I'm repeating myself. In any event, there has never been a less expensive moment for wine consumption in south Minneapolis, and if you don't avail yourself of all the bargains out there, you will surely regret it to the end of your booze days.
