Helping Kids Cope with Colds

Children aren't little adults, and most parents realize that when it comes to treating kids' colds they have to tailor their treatment.

Many pediatricians recommend medications made specifically for children that contain acetaminophen to treat fever and aches. Parents should avoid medicating children with aspirin because it can cause severe health problems, especially in young children.

In general, infants, babies, and children under age two should not be given over-the-counter medications. In fact, some symptoms such as a congested nose can be relieved with a warm shower. Plenty of rest and fluids help kids get through a cold, and there are many books on natural remedies for children available as well.
