The Great Betrayal is an attempt to put a patina of intellectual responsibility on the traditional demonology and nostrums of the extreme right. Pat is a clever propagandist, and this book may seduce the historically illiterate. One should keep in mind, however, the social philosopher Wilhelm Reich's useful equation: "Revolutionary emotion plus reactionary politics equals fascism." The lock 'n' load rhetoric of Pat's previous campaigns may have been carefully pruned for this volume, but that makes it all the more insidious. Pat Buchanan remains a very dangerous man.
