Domestic Bliss

MINNEAPOLITANS WHO do business from home can pull up the blinds and bring in the pit bull: No government agents will be banging on their doors anytime soon demanding to inspect stockpiles of Tupperware or floppy disks. The Minneapolis City Council last week voted to reverse some of the toughest home-business rules in the metro area. Now, domestic entrepreneurs can once again do business from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; hire one employee who doesn't live in the home; and see more than five clients a day, as long as the traffic doesn't bother neighbors. "We're pretty thrilled with what we got," says Michelle Bloom, an activist who harangued the Council to change the rules it passed last April. "It's almost a full reversal."
