New York State of Denial

In shifting coasts and getting bankable names such as Hemingway and Lauren Hutton, Star is attempting to amplify and glamorize his successful soap formula, topping it off with lots of champagne. CPW is straining for chic melodrama, when it should really go for an edgy semi-parody of New York and its tonier denizens. Yet there's a point at which even farcical viciousness is simply depressing. Sure, maybe "real life is dull," as Star maintained in that same Vogue interview, but so far all CPW demonstrates is that mainlining fantasy can get pretty tiresome too.
